Things to do in Charlottesville

Here are some of our favorite things to do and see in Charlottesville!

Thomas Jefferson's home and architectural masterpiece. Nearby Michie Tavern is fun for a genuine colonial meal.

Get a Lift
For early risers only who want to rise even more! We loved our sunrise flight on the Bear Balloons that launch from the Boar's Head Inn. Call +1 (800) 932-0152.

Go Hiking, Biking and Caving
Hike or bike along the Appalachian Trail, take a short hike up to Monticello, or go spelunking in Luray Caverns.

Have Fun With History!
Tour the historic downtown mall. Or drive to nearby sites such as James Madison's home (Montpelier) or Appomattox Courthouse.

Take a walking tour, hang out on the Downtown Mall, browse the shops and bookstores, relax with a Starr Hill beer, get a bite to eat, or ice skate even on the hottest days.

Go Wine Tasting
Thomas Jefferson introduced winemaking to America. Join a group wine tasting, or explore the area's many wineries on your own! UPDATE: Read the May 20 New York Times article about Virginia wines and wineries (includes links to winery sites)

Tour the University of Virginia
Michael was a University Guide, a position of honor at Mr. Jefferson's University. See the Lawn (it ain't just grass!).

See Art
Yes, there's art in Virginia. Special exhibits are running at the UVA Art Museum. Also, Austrailian Aboriginal art is at the Kluge.

Drive Skyline Drive
This is a beautiful route through the Blue Ridge Mountains.

And Other Stuff...
Golfing, GusBurgers, Museums, Spa & Massage, Antiquing, Horseback Riding and more!
